This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

"What does this word mean?" I hear this every day from my students. I could tell them, but that would prevent them from learning to use one of the most valuable resources available to them: a dictionary.

My students amaze me every day.

I would love for them to learn how to properly use a dictionary, but our school doesn't have dictionaries that are suitable for second graders, and there are no English/Spanish dictionaries for my English Language Learners. None of my students have dictionaries at home, either.

My Project

Knowing how to use a dictionary will serve my students well, not only today but for the rest of their lives. They will learn how to alphabetize, how to spell and how to pronounce words in both Spanish and English. They'll also expand their vocabulary (which will come in handy during our rousing class games of Scrabble).

My students need reference books such as dictionaries and encyclopedias.

Having reference books in our class library is a luxury we cannot afford right now. Dictionary skills are crucial, and having these books will help my superstars master both of their languages!!
