My Students

My students are one of a kind! I teach 11 unique young men and women in my severe special needs high school/transition class. My amazing team consists of one teaching assistant and one one-on-one. My class has varying disabilities including intellectual, physical, autism, Down syndrome, behavioral, emotional, communication, seizures, vision, and hearing. Our school is in a low-income, poverty-stricken area where funding is not always available.

My students require hands-on materials with many different types of manipulatives that they can feel and move.

Most of my students require hourly sensory stimulation to keep them engaged and focused. Please consider donating to the lives of my very special students to help them reach their full potential.

My Project

Learning through observation is a great experience for any learner. My students enjoy picture books and making science connections during our reading lessons. It will be great to provide bird feeders to observe different types of birds that visit our classroom feeders. We will also collect data about the different birds we see to tie into our math skills.

The students can learn bird calls and songs, bird markings, and the different seeds a type of bird might like best.

This will also become part of our in-classroom work program. Students will get the opportunity to replace food in the feeders. This will work on fine motor skills, balance and measuring.
