My students need 18 dictionaries that give explanations that they can understand the first time they read it.

My Students
Have you ever looked up a word in a dictionary and after reading the definition you still do not know what the word means.
I teach 4th grade at a small elementary school in California.
I teach in a community that is dedicated to their children and their education. However, this community has to work hard to provide for their families, as there is often not enough time in the day for work and play.
My Project
When a student does not know the meaning to a word they are told to look it up in a dictionary. The problem is that most of the time children do not understand the definition because it uses words they do not know or the level of reading is too sophisticated. The Longman Dictionary is the best dictionary on the market today because it is not a dictionary. Yes, it functions like a dictionary but the beauty is that it gives children (and adults) explanations for words and plenty of examples. It uses kid friendly language that even helps me to explain the meaning of a word. Students need to know that dictionaries are useful resources, not just something to go to when you need to know a spelling.
I would like to provide the students in my class for years to come with the best education that I can give.
I would also like to have the best resources on the market today. I would like the students to see the value in this resource and want it for themselves. This Longman Dictionary is a resource that student can use through advanced education.
