Help me give my students a start to a school library where they can go on adventures, connect with others, and learn about many other topics and how to run a library themselves using technology.
The students I teach are not your typical young students. They are in a French immersion program and are learning how to live and thrive in two different cultures. Their thinking is always outside of the box, and they truly want to understand others' thoughts and ideas. When my students have discussions, the respect that they have for each others' voices is inspiring. Students are begging to read the next chapter in the class novel because they become so invested, not only in the story being told but also in the learning process.
My students are world citizens looking for outlets to understand and explore other cultures, ideas, and worlds whether it be nonfiction or fiction because they are genuinely curious to expand their knowledge.
They work hard daily in each class to surpass the goals set, and mostly because they yearn for more than any one person or school will ever give. As their ELA teacher, I try to use books and articles to give them outlets for exploring and learning about topics where interest is shown.
Although I try, my students never seem to get enough, and as their teacher, I am excited each day to teach them.
My Project
Our school does not have a decent library for students. We have one book shelf for English texts that student are allowed borrow without a log of books or who has them. Our students love to read, and they deserve to have an acceptable quality selection of English books. Students also need a system that will ensure the books are returned in a timely manner and similar condition that they were in when borrowed.
Our students have started a library club in which they will better organize, keep track, and create a system using the iPad for all school books.
They will use an app to organize, check the books in and out, and send notifications to remind students to bring the books back. They are also going to use an organization system to enhance the use of our school books.
Please help my students to make this dream plan become a reality!
