My Students

My fifth grade students want to learn. They come from unique backgrounds. My room consists of students with special needs, students from low income families, students from rural areas, and some who have never visited a major city even though we are located halfway between Madison and Milwaukee. The majority of my class is economically disadvantaged.

Despite all their challenges, my students are a great group of children that really want to excel.

Each student has set goals for where they want to be academically later this year. They have also chosen strategies to help them reach their goal. Now we want to support and extend their opportunities in new directions.

My Project

Some kids love to read, but they don't know what to read next. Other students don't love to read, but if you can make reading enticing, they will try.

Having new books in a classroom increases engagement for a variety of learners.

For the readers in the classroom, it gives them new books to put on their list of what they want to read. For the students that struggle with reading, the excitement of something new motivates some students to read a few chapters. Sometimes, a few chapters of a great book is all you need to keep the child reading. By having these new 2020 books in the classroom, I hope to excite many students in my classroom to read!
