My students need materials to do experiments, as well as learn basic concepts in science.

My fourth grade students love to learn. I teach high-poverty students in an extremely low-income area. The school they attend encourages community involvement, and there are many individuals from our community involved at our school.

Science is a subject that is often neglected in our educational system today, because of the emphasis on testing. It is sometimes difficult to convince others that science is still a hugely important part of a child's education. At my school, we have very few supplies, other than the county-wide textbook, to teach our students science.

My students need more science-related materials. Boxes with science activities and reproducibles will allow my students to conduct experiments about the standards in our curriculum. Book sets will supplement their textbooks, as well as the experiments they will be able to participate in. Using these books, as well as the basic skills book, will allow students to practice their reading comprehension skills while learning about science. Since reading is a tested subject, this will help teach both sets of objectives.

With your help, my students will be able to receive instruction in science they would not otherwise be exposed too. Also, this will not only effect my students, but the entire fourth grade at my school. Each student on my grade level will benefit from these items. Imagine the curiosity and the wonder, as well as the knowledge, you will be bringing about important science subjects to so many children!
