This project is constructed in a way to provide interactive ways to introduce students to the world around them and it's cultures. Spanning all four semesters, students will learn to use globes and maps to locate countries around the world. Using colored markers and sharpies, colored pencils, and regular pencils, students will create personal flags that represent themselves, historical and cultural timeline posters to depict aspects of North America and South America in vibrant colors, expressing themselves in new and unique ways. Travel posters and the world flag trimming will be displayed prominently around the classroom to provide inspiration as they create.
The activities in this project can often be overwhelming to some students, especially those with Special Learning Needs.
Manipulatives such as the Globe Stress Balls and Chair Fidget Bands are utilized to reduce students stress and enhance student focus. To minimize student distraction during work time and as students move around the room, "tennis ball" Non Slip Rubber Ball Chairs Foot Covers will be used to reduce noise.
As activities are completed, they will displayed around the classroom and hallways using command strips to temporarily adhere to the specialized non-stick paint used in our school.
This is a large, overarching project that spans the entire school year. The culmination of wive will reflect the students' learning progress and self expression of the world and cultures around them.
