What a Novel Idea! Adding More Novels for Novel Studies
My students need high interest, engaging books for novel studies. My students are currently reading a DiCamillo book and are begging for their next novel. These books will be a great addition to their reading groups.

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students walk into class every morning excited about what we are going to be learning that day! It makes me so happy to hear, "I can't wait to see what we're doing in Science!" or to have a group of students begging to tell me about the book they're reading and wanting advice on how to get more books on a similar topic. I love listening to my students talk when they don't think I'm listening and instead of discussing movies or what they did over the weekend, they are making book suggestions or talking about our most recent social studies or science project. These moments remind me constantly how smart and eager to learn my students are!
The majority of my students are from low income families and although their families are extremely hard working and loving, my students face many challenges on a daily basis.
Many of my students are behind academically and because of their income levels do not always have the same access to educational materials and technology at home. Our school does it's best to meet the needs of our students. However, the school is overcrowded and resources are limited.
My Project
I am requesting group sets of different high interest novels for my 3rd grade students. I gave a group of students their first novel to read and discuss as a group and as they are finishing their project, they are begging me to tell them what the next novel will be. My school does not have many options when it comes to novel sets. I have purchased some, but the cost of books and other materials adds up quickly!
All of my students are learning English as a second language and unfortunately lag behind their peers when it comes to their reading levels.
Having access to books that are interesting to them will give my students the chance to practice and improve their reading skills.
After our holiday break, we set goals for the new year and many of my students' goals were to read more books. I want to ensure that my students have the materials to help them reach their goals and improve their reading scores.
