Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I teach elementary music to about 300 students ranging from Kindergarten to 5th grade in Salem, MA. The students at my school come from very diverse backgrounds, but thats what makes us special!
Even though our student population is very diverse, one thing that they have in common is that they are excited to learn about music and make music together!
My goal is to help these students find connections between music and their worlds and interests. I want my students to find joy in making music, especially in a time where there is so much going on in their lives.
My Project
The students at Bentley Academy Innovation School are excited about making music, but the school has limited musical instruments for the students to make music with. This is my first year teaching at the school, and many of the classroom instruments are broken, damaged, or very old. Providing these students with new instruments will help me reach my goal of helping students have a positive experience and joy in making music together!
Boomwhackers are an exciting and engaging instrument for all grade levels and for teaching many musical concepts!
They can be used to teach about pitch, beat, rhythm, composition, melody, harmony, and so much more! Plus, they are easy to clean and sanitize, so they can be enjoyed by all students during this time.
