My Students

My students are eager, energetic, and enjoy coming to music class. They have diverse family, social, economical, and musical backgrounds. My classroom is a place where musicians of any skill level can come together to learn and perform.

My situation is unique because of the large range in student ages.

My room is a safe space for elementary students and middle school students alike. We sing, play instruments, read music, compose, learn music history, theory, and about music from other cultures.

My Project

Students from grades Pre-K through 8th grade use Boomwhackers as a way to practice reading music. No matter what the age, students enjoy using these instruments. Younger students learn note names and interval sounds, elementary students read music and coordinate playing between peers, and middle school students read longer, more advanced pieces, as well as write their own compositions.

Our current supply is not enough for an entire class.

By adding to our collection, we will have enough instruments for an entire class to use at the same time, decreasing downtime students have waiting for their turn with an instrument.
