My Students
I teach third grade and my students are 8-9 years old. I haven't met my students yet, but I am excited to learn and grow with them this year! Third graders are very resilient. They learn from their mistakes and work hard. I am amazed at how much my students can grow every single day! Third grade rocks!
My Project
I will be helping to open a brand new school in the middle of a pandemic. I know that my students are as excited as I am to be in our beautiful brand new building! However, there are a lot of precautions and unknowns for this upcoming year. My classroom needs a lot of items to help students make this year one that they remember in a positive way.
I would like to have my students earn positive behavior incentives to help encourage students to make good choices during these challenging times.
I would like stickers to remind students that they "stuck" with it even though things are drastically different for them. I would like to give them friendship bracelets to remind students of their classmates and how we work together in school. These behavior incentives will come in handy not just this year - but in years to come. Students this year and future students will be able to learn valuable lessons while working on positive behavior and working together.
There is conflicting research about whether behavior students are effective for students, however, it depends largely in how incentives are earned. Students achievements will be celebrated and the focus won't be on the "toy".
I would like the book "After the Fall" to read to my students. It is a book about getting back up again when we fall (or when we have trials - like with COVID 19). I will use the chime in class as our daily reminder to breathe and reflect. I will use the fish bowl and ping pong balls as a “student lottery” to have a positive spin at facilitating and encouraging class discussions. I would also like sit spots to help practice safe social distancing while we are working together. We got this!
