Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

I am an elementary teacher in the South Bronx. Over ninety percent of our students receive free or reduced lunch. As a school, we spend most of our time teaching the children to read and do math. Consequently, there is very little time left in the day to expose them to the arts that would enrich their educational experience. In order to change this for our children, we have recently added a music cluster to our building. However, there aren't any instruments or supplementary supplies. Surprisingly, there isn't any money in the budget this year to acquire them either. In an effort to enrich the children's musical experience I would also like to expose the children to a variety of instruments from around the world. We are a school with many cultures represented however, the students know little about each others cultures. I can't wait to see their faces as they begin to play the instruments and make the music waiting inside come out.
