My Project

The students at our school love music. They spend a lot of time on Tiktok perfecting dances, singing in class, and some even participate in band and orchestra. In an attempt to give all of our students a chance to find their voice through music we have reinstated the music program after 6 years.

While we are blessed to have a mixture of percussion instruments, we do not have everything we need.

I want to be able to introduce younger students to music not only through the traditional percussion instruments ( i.e. xylophone, metallophone, drums, etc.) but also through non-conventional items. Scarves, parachutes and ribbon streamers can be used to explore rhythm, dynamics, musical expression, and form through movement. Rhythm sticks are use to teach rhythm, beat and coordination. Boomwhackers, Ukulele and recorders are used to teach pitch, rhythm, note reading, and meter. All of these items will help me teach the elements of music to our students in an engaging way. I do not want my students to come to class just to "sit and get". I want them to love to come to class because they are involved in their learning. They will learn about music through creating, movement, exploration and performance.

Our students are very talented, energetic and love music. Our music program will not only educate them in the basic elements of music but it will also give students a chance to explore learning through dance and playing instruments that they may have never had a chance to learn with out this class. Please help us reinstate this music class by filling in the gaps in our supplies!
