This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My 5th grade students attend the biggest elementary school in Utah with over 1,000 students from Pre-K to 6th grade. All 5 of the fifth grade classrooms are in portables behind the school, as well as two 6th grade classrooms. 70% of these students receive free or reduced lunch. However, these students have goals and want to achieve greatness, but the tools necessary are lacking. They want to learn and understand. They want to grow and ask questions. I want to help provide them with these tools so they can achieve their potential.

My Project

It can be tough to motivate a group of ten and eleven-year-olds to do their best in educational and civic goals, but I will teach by example and positive reinforcement what I expect and what they should expect in themselves. I plan to achieve this by using Brag Tags, a positive reinforcement system that rewards good effort and behavior with colorful tags, that my students will wear on their award necklaces and lanyards. There will be behavioral tags along with goal achieving tags. These will teach my students to work towards a goal and feel proud of their accomplishments! This inner drive will help them reach their goals in the future. Your donation will supply the necklaces and binder rings for displaying the brag tags, containers to organize them in so I can easily grab and award the tags, a label maker and label tape to label the organizers and necklaces, a case for the label maker so it stays safe and secure, paper to print the tags on, and hooks to hang the necklaces on. I will be making the tags using my printer and copier at school. Thank you for helping me teach my students they have something to brag about and to stay organized!
