My Students
The library is the hub of the school and the place where learning is first and foremost. Students and classes use the library throughout the day for checking out books, research, information literacy, technology help, and much more. A large number of students also come to the library for recess.
We are a Title I school, and many of our students face financial hardships.
Our students come from a diverse range of backgrounds with a wide variety of socioeconomic classes and ethnicities represented. We have many ELL (English Language Learners) students, a good Special Education program, and teachers that work hard to foster a sense of school community and inclusiveness. Despite the struggles that many of our students face at home, they come to school ready to learn and are excited to spend their time in the library. Our students are wonderful Preschool through 5th graders and work hard to be the best that they can be.
My Project
My students want a place to bond with their classmates while playing board games. Strategic board games promote learning, unlock thinking skills, and stimulate brain development in children. It is learning disguised as fun, socializing, and strategizing. The games I have requested are not the old board games that are based on luck but are instead games that promote critical thinking skills and strategy. I have also picked some cooperative games which promote team building and communication.
I have requested a wide variety of games, so I can have several groups playing different games at the same time.
This will allow my students to develop bonds with each other while increasing their critical thinking and communication skills. My goal would be for my students to take what they've learned home and begin playing games with their families.
