Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
All my students have disabilities. Some students are really short and some are strong as other students. When playing basketball, most of my students do not have enough strength to throw a basketball to the rim.
All my students have disabilities.
Some students are diagnosed with autism and some are diagnosed with intellectual disability and some have both. Often teaching and learning to play basketball is hard for students with such disability. Our school is Title I school which means overall school students'ÂÂ population is low income and school API score is pretty low. School does not have enough money to buy necessary equipment for students with disabilities.
My students love to play all sports including basketball. Sometime they come out during lunch to play with non-disabled students as well, but majority of students are still in a process of learning to pass and dribble. Some students are very active and some are very sedentary. Some have enough strength to shoot the ball to the basket, but some cannot reach the half way to the rim.
My Project
My students need nine training basketballs with hands-on and need two Basketball E-Z goals. My students love to play basketball regardless of their skill level. Some students never played before so it is really challenging for them. For some students they are so small that they do not have enough strength to throw a ball to the rim. With basketballs with hands-on and E-Z goals, students may learn to place their hands on the ball with visual aid and they can throw a ball to a rim which is little bit taller than them. I am certain that their self-esteem will increase and by doing that they will be more stronger and better at shooting. They will continue to play basketball with peers throughout their life time. With these resources, students will learn to play basketball with preferred hand position and shooting the ball to their level of strength.
I am very certain that your donations will make a difference in students' life.
Since most of my students live in a poor neighborhood, they did not have proper balls or proper equipment to learn and play basketball according to their level. You are not only helping them to participate in a basketball unit, but you are helping them to become a better player so they can be lifetime exercisers and you are letting them know that somebody care for them.
