I teach Computer Science (CS) and Technology in Queens, New York. Our school is a special place with a rich composition of children from diverse backgrounds, particularly serving a large population of English Language Learners and students with disabilities. Many of our students come from families that face financial hardships that limit accessibility to technology. We are actively working to close the Digital Divide through CS instruction and work with donors will help ensure equitable access to technology tools for all of our students.
All children should be exposed to meaningful STEM and Computer Science learning opportunities integrated across all content areas.
My Project
The students who visit my lab were incredibly excited to try out Microsoft's new FlipGrid platform for safely sharing their new learning and acquired skills through video recordings. This platform allows our students to quickly record a communication about their ideas and reflections with a select audience that includes their teacher, class peers and family members.
I want to amplify student voice and explore innovative ways to engage with parents, peers and teachers.
Having headphones with microphones will not just support using Microsoft's FlipGrid, but help streamline accessibility features such as text to speech and translation tools in our classroom for use applied during other projects.
Our current lab headphones are breaking, outdated and lack the built in microphone needed to help cancel out ambient noise in the bustling classroom environment needed for clear recordings of student voice/message. Your support will help us ensure students have the tools they need to grow and share their voice with their community and engage others in their learning.
