Help me give my students insight into what compost is, and how we can use it in our community garden plot.
FULLY FUNDED! Ms. Krol's classroom raised $381

My Project
I have rented a community garden plot for our classroom, and it has been so exciting for my students to clear it out, sow seeds directly, and start seeds under the grow lights we were lucky enough to get funded last year. The students have had lots of questions, and we’ve talked about being how we can help the environment while gardening.
I sourced a rain barrel, but I would love to help my students literally see how we can compost plant waste, and use that compost to help our garden grow.
By having a compost bin for veggie and fruit scraps, and then a three-part see through bin, my students will be able to see exactly what happens to compost.
I would also like to give each student their own pot and soil so that they can grow their own herb. We’ll start the seeds under the grow lights, with the students tending to their plant. Once they’ve really taken off, they’ll get to bring that pot home with them to share with their family.
