We’Ve Been “Weighting” for This

Help me give my students weighted dolls with various ethnicities (Asian, Black, Caucasian, and Hispanic), weighted Tote hound and turtle, weighted Kordy Moose, weighted Smiling Starfish pillows and Red Octagon vibrating pillows.

My Students

I work as a preschool special education developmental classroom teacher. All of my students have a delay in their development, including but not limited to social skills, fine and gross motor development, self-help skills, speech/language, and/or cognitive delays.

All children in my classroom are dependents of United States soldiers, and over half come from homes of low socioeconomic status.

Our focus is on social and emotional health and well-being of children, motor development, and preparing students for kindergarten and beyond. Learning is hands-on, minds-on engagement in our program that is play-based and full of self-discovery.

My Project

When my students become frustrated, lacking self-control, the weighted turtle and dog, in addition to Kordy Moose and Starfish pillows will become my student's class pets. They will care for the animals by placing them on their lap for extra weighted support. In turn, the weighted animals will provide comfort by reducing anxiety, provide a calming and soothing effect and serve as a transitional object to help my students rejoin the group.

The weighted baby dolls will be especially beneficial for my students who are impacted with Autism.

Weighted dolls will provide opportunities to keep my students engaged while at the same time receiving sensory input, helping to ground and calm them, remaining focused for extended periods of time rather than running around the classroom.

Loving, caring for and nurturing baby dolls has a soothing effect on most students I have worked with. Providing my students with weighted dolls from various ethnicities (Asian, Black, Caucasian and Hispanic), will allow my students the opportunity to choose one that they most closely associate themselves with.
