We're Using an IPOD for What?

My students need an iPod touch for various activities within the classroom.

My Students

Glenda, the good witch from the Wizard of Oz, says it best, "You've always had the power my dear, you just had to learn it for yourself."

My students are high school, special education students who have been identified with Emotional and Learning Disabilities.

The students attend a separate alternative school as they have displayed difficulties maintaining within the traditional school setting. They struggle with fitting in; not only within the walls of a school setting, but fitting into society as a whole. The students are very social and have the desire to be successful, but have faced many obstacles in their short years. They are able to talk and "act" like teenagers, but struggle with the very basics of education and social skills, often functioning many years below their grade levels. They are learning how to be successful, and be proud of their successes, through the use of technology and hands-on experiences.

My Project

By having an iPod touch in my classroom, my students will be able to do a variety of activities. The iPod can be used with educational apps that allow the students to work on individual skills with which they are struggling. It can also be used as a listening center (helping students to learn to take in information that they not only read but that they hear both in the world and the workforce), and will allow them to monitor their own accomplishments through the use of QR codes. Once taught the basics, my students will be able to use the iPod on their own with minimal assistance, helping to build not only their academic skills, but their confidence as well.
