Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

Picture a brand-new, state-of-the-art school building with all the latest technologies at our fingertips. Picture rolling grassy hills and two huge playground areas....filled with rocks! Unfortunately, our playgrounds have not been installed yet! Instead we are left with big, empty pits. My kindergrtners are just learning the routines of a full day of school and their recess time is very valuable to them. However, our "recess resources" are extremely limited right now.

As a school community, we are grateful for our beautiful, new building. But we are still overcoming some obstacles as finishing touches are still taking place. Unfortunately, this includes our missing playgrounds. I like to take advantage of this fall weather while we can and go outside; however, we have to get very creative with our outdoor activities. We have been playing a lot of Duck, Duck Goose and Tag. My students are sick of those games! I don't even have balls or jump ropes to offer them. And forget about indoor recess; when it rains, it's even more difficult. We were provided with a great play kitchen, but no food or utensils. We were given a cool Lego table, but no Lego's. This is where you come in!!!

Kindergarten should be full of play and socialization, but we have some obstacles to overcome to make this opportunity successful for my students. We need an activity set that includes balls and jump rope and various activities that we could take outside. We also need rainy-day recess activities, such as puzzles, play food for our kitchen, and Legos for our Lego table.

Don't you think recess and play is important in kindergarten? I do! Please help me provide my students with an opportunity to socialize and play in a structured environment. Their academic demands are so high that they need a time to just be kids! You can make this possible!
