We're Ready for a Read-in Celebration

Help me give my students fun, fuzzy socks, animal pencils, and some snacks.

My Project

I teach at an older, urban school where many of my wonderful second graders are deemed at-risk, they are trying very hard to learn, and at the same time, they are learning how to navigate being in school. Almost all of my students qualify for free breakfast and lunch; often, those free meals are the only food they have. More than half of my students come from low-income homes but we are not a Title I school, and, as a result, we lack the resources and opportunities that many other schools have. My kids never go on field trips, to the movies or to live musical events.

This pandemic has been hard on my students, but they have persevered and now I want to have a Read-in Celebration Day for them.

I am requesting some fun, fuzzy socks for my students. Students will get take off their shoes, put on their fuzzy socks and read the day away. I know these fuzzy socks will just add to read-in celebration fun. These socks will also serve as a special reward for all their great behavior and hard work.

I have requested some animal pencils so kids can write about their Read-in. I am asking for a variety of snacks so students can munch as they read. Our school often generally provides fruits/vegetables for lunch but by afternoon, my kids are starving and need a snack.

I am convinced that simple creative celebrations are an essential part of the school year. My students desperately need to take time to celebrate their good work.

Our school has no money for this type of project. My students are the most wonderful kids in the world, and they need your help. Please consider donating.
