My Students
My tapestry of scholars is beautiful, unique, and diverse. Each child brings their own energy, enthusiasm, and excitement into the classroom. Many of them come from less than desirable socio-economic circumstances and for that reason have not been exposed to everything the world has to offer them. It is my hope that as their reading teacher, I can provide them with windows and doors through books. It is my belief that all scholars are readers, some have yet to discover their book.
My Project
The addition of the 2018-2019 Sunshine State Young Readers Award Books will allow my students to read fiction chapter books with diverse characters and story lines. These books will also promote a reading community in my classroom because many of my students will read every book on the list. In addition, we will be participating in the annual battle of the books competition which celebrates reading and reading comprehension through healthy competition. All competitors must read every sunshine state book in order to qualify. This extra layer of a competitive spirit will encourage my students to read more than they ever have.
