My Project

I am requesting a variety of resources for our upcoming poetry unit. Poetry is a challenging subject for middle school students since it relies heavily on analyzing language and interpreting themes. It is the perfect unit for the end of the year because while challenging, it can be a lot of fun! I am revamping my current lessons and adding in new activities and games with the items in this project.

Students will build blackout poetry with existing texts and haikus with a cube game.

They will make magnetic poems with different sets, including a Spanish magnet set for my students who are Spanish speakers. They will create paint chip poetry and also analyze a variety of poetic forms. We will celebrate National Poetry Month in April and showcase all of our poetic knowledge.

These resources will allow me to create new lessons and redo the way I teach poetry and figurative language, making it more engaging and accessible to all of my students. I will be able to share resources with my ELA team and help all of our 7th graders connect with many different types of poems.
