Do you remember your elementary school class assembly or play? Hoping to get the lead part? Then the endless hours of the studying lines and perhaps practicing in front of the mirror or anyone who would listen to achieve perfection? Now multiply that experience by 10!!
My students want to bring a Broadway experience to our little school in the heart of Springfield Gardens.
My students are talented actors, singers and dancers, who are putting in endless hours of rehearsal time weekly to give their audience a great show in addition to completing all assignments and preparing to take the NYS ELA and Math examinations.
My students are passionate and inspired and want to participate in all aspects of the musical production – acting, designing, and building the set. Here at our school we are developing the love for the arts. We hope to spark the interest of our students to pursue a career in acting, directing, movie or stage production. Since auditions and beginning rehearsals, my students have developed and strengthen their artistic skills and cultivated their abilities to collaborate, think critically, problem-solve creatively and communicate effectively.
My Project
The provision of costumes, props and scene sets will enable my students to perform their “Broadway” show here in Springfield Gardens for parents, guardians, teachers, students and the community to enjoy. My students have already learned through auditioning the importance of reading fluency, new vocabulary, improvisation and timing. The provision of the costumes and props will help with our performance and make a tremendous difference for the student performers because the costumes and props help tell the story, and get the actors into character. The set designs also contribute because they are the settings of story we are telling. The lessons my students will continue to learn are life skills.
My students are learning lessons through performing that are building self-confidence and self-esteem that enables them to overcome anxieties and stress.
My students are learning different problem-solving strategies that will allow them to develop reasoning and understanding of what the issues really are and be able to select and implement a solution.
