My Students
We pull out the white boards. Immediately I hear, "My board is cracked!" or, "The corners are brown!" and often, "I can't get this old marker off!" A minor distraction when we're trying to learn.
I teach some of the best first graders in all the land.
My students this year are a bit behind for one reason or another, and need as much foundation in reading and math as possible before going on to second grade. While we are in a more privileged area of our district, times are tough and donations are few.
My Project
White boards, particularly magnetic ones, are priceless in a first grade classroom. We use them to work on math facts and word families. They are the best tool for quick assessments; do my students know what they should? The magnetic part is huge as far as word building activities during language arts. With my white boards the way they are, it's tough to use them for anything. It's a huge distraction to have them so old and out of shape. The complaints and observations get in the way of learning time.
The possibilities for the use of these magnetic white boards are endless.
Not only will they help improve phonics, writing, and math skills, they will be a great help in assessing the learning of my students.
