My Project
Our robotics team has just finished our 10th year, and we are still growing and improving! Since 2019 we have been using the upstairs physics lab in the College Academy as our shop. We have outgrown it. The C. A. also needs the space to move classes in there. As a result we will be moving into some of the soon-to-be-vacated Advanced Manufacturing area downstairs on Main Street (the main school hallway). The Adv. Manufacturing classes in there will be moving to the new Tech School opening in the fall. We have been given the space, which is almost twice as large an area.
We have been spoiled by cabinets/drawers/countertops in the physics lab (almost every drawer and cabinet is filled with "robot stuff") and the new space doesn't have this type of storage; actually almost no storage.
We need places to store everything from sharpies to electronic connectors to gears, gearboxes, and motors.
At our last event we came so close to being an alliance captain and playing in the elimination matches. However the cramped building space in the physics lab hampered our ability to work faster and design a better robot. We didn't get into the playoffs. Our new space has two separate areas. One will be used as the shop where all our fabrication will happen, and the other will be used for computers, classroom/meeting space, 3D printers, and the like. There is only one small countertop for computers total in both spaces (along with two large sinks) so we will be lacking useful storage once moved in there.
