We're Lost But Financial Literacy Can Help Us

My students need 10 math books including Pattern Fish and a shelving/storage unit for their financial literacy books and materials.

My Students

My K-3 students have some wonderful new financial literacy materials but they can't find a thing in the library. They need math concept books and storage so they can easily and efficiently find what they need to succeed.

My K-3 students often cannot find the resources they need to be successful.

My school is close to two military bases and a significant number of my students are dependents of deployed military personnel. Our small K-6 public school is over 30 years old and many of my wonderful students are deemed at-risk. Well over half qualify for free or reduced priced breakfast and lunch, but we are not a Title I school. As a result, we lack the resources and opportunities of many schools. Our student population is racially and ethnically diverse. 22% of our students are in bilingual/ELL programs or Indian Education. Our students need to expand their horizons, they need resources to learn the basics of financial literacy and math.

My Project

My library serves a significant number of at-risk and bilingual students who need help with math, reading and financial literacy. I was successful in getting some resources from another DonorsChoose project but now my students cannot find the materials in the library. I am asking for a storage/shelving unit and 10 books simple math concept books. I plan to create a finance center in the library. All students will be able to use the resources and they will be able to find the books at their reading level to begin reading and developing math concepts and literacy skills. My students will be able to learn about essential financial literacy concepts.

Your donations will improve my classroom in many ways.

My 240 students in grades K-3 will learn financial literacy and math concepts and skills that they would not get at home. Your support will allow me to provide my students access to math and reading materials that meet their individual needs.
