We love writing! We work hard every day to live a creative, writerly life. When we love a piece of writing we want to publish it and a binder is a perfect place to store all the great writing we are so proud of. What a treasure it will be to take home at the end of the year to share with our family!
My students are the best!
They are bright, eager, curious and love to learn. We have so much fun together each day at school. I teach first and second graders, half of each, in a public Montessori school. It's the best job and each day is exciting. One of my favorite things to teach is writing. Children have so many stories to share and I am honored to be a part of their journey as they share their lives on paper. They grow as writers through the year and their transformations are incredible, but mostly their pride and validation as authors is what is so inspiring to me every year.
My Project
When my students love a piece of writing, they can choose to fancy it up and publish that work. In the past, we hung up the work in the hallway, library, or send it home right away. This year, I want the kids to take more ownership for publishing and publish a piece they love when ever they want. For this to happen, I want my students to have a place to put all their published work, like a time capsule of writing they are most proud of. Having a binder for that will allow my students to have a safe place for their work and to take responsibility in getting their writing in their binder. A whole book of their very own that they wrote! What a treasure that will be at the end of the year, to see their growth as authors, and for the rest of their lives!
During writing, we are not just learning how to write.
We are learning how to start and finish something, how to work hard, have persistence, and take pride in our determined efforts. This project is special to us because we want a place to hold our writing that we can take care of, love, and share with others.
