My students are highly creative, energetic learners! Every day they come into my room, ready to explore and learn about music, both from home and in other cultures. My students work hard to make sure the music room is a place where they are free to be accepted and safe.
The school my students attend is Title I.
Many of my students receive free or reduced lunch. There is a large migrant population at the school, as a result, many of students are bilingual and are a constant support system to others who are learning English as a second language.
My Project
My students love to play guitar! We use it in the classroom to teach rhythm, dynamics, musicality, and most importantly to have fun! A few years ago I attended a training which resulted in a grant to gain a full class set of guitars. This was an amazing donation that has led to hundred of students learning to play basic guitar. I have 45 guitars in my classroom, enough so that every child can play.
Unfortunately, over the past few years a string has broken here or there, and there is no funding to replace them.
As a result, some of my kids are now sharing guitars, and only getting about half the playing time they deserve.
These materials would get all the class guitars back in working order and allow for some future repairs to keep them working for the years to come!
