Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
This year I am excited to work with young special needs students in a high needs community. We are located a walking distance from Yankee Stadium and a quick subway ride into the city.
As part of our curriculum, students will learn about their local neighborhood and larger community. They will use multiple resources to research important landmark and historical facts. Students will use the internet, prior knowledge and books to learn about the history and geography of NY. At the same time,we will visit these place of interests and document our experiences. They will become active members of their community through various projects and activities.
In order to help facilitate their explorations, our classroom needs a variety of books that highlight these important features. The books need to be visually appealing and include information simplified for their academic level. The books will be used to spark conversation and build content related vocabulary. We also need books that make interesting read alouds.
Your help will ensure that my students will have the books necessary to begin exploring their community.
