My Students

Musical, creative, inquisitive, and energetic: these are all words that describe my students. They love to sing, move, play instruments, and learn in hands-on ways. They love to use drums, Orff instruments, and ukuleles in our music room, and they love to perform.

Around 25% of our students come from military families, and this brings them their own unique set of challenges.

Our school is a true community school with all students living in a tight suburban area of around 2.5 miles in radius. This allows students to participate in many extracurricular activities, and we try to offer them many varied opportunities to do so.

My Project

For several years, I’ve dreamed of providing my students with some of the amazing playground pieces available from Freenotes Harmony Park. These durable outdoor instruments can be installed on playgrounds and are an amazing option for students to use at recess.

I’m requesting two pieces in this project- Pagoda Bells and Duet, both pitched instruments that are similar to xylophones.

All students are different, and while some love running wildly and expending energy at recess, some like to have other calmer options available. I’d love for students to be able to make music while at play!

One of the most exciting parts of this project is that a former student of our school will be completing the installation as part of his Eagle Scout project. This will save us a lot of money and will allow him to contribute to his elementary school in a long lasting way.

This project will directly impact historically underfunded classrooms.
