My Students
For the past three years, I have been given the opportunity to teach AP American History (APUSH) to high school juniors. Despite the challenges in attempting to cover 1491-2016 by May each year, my students and I work incredibly hard both in and outside of the classroom. I enjoy seeing the work pay off when my students receive their scores in July; some have never passed an AP exam in the past but do with APUSH. I want to do all that I can to make sure my students continue to do well in my class and on the exam each year.
My APUSH students work very hard to excel in all of their classes, including mine and their other honors/AP courses.
My school has many students on free and reduced lunch, and we've previously been classified as a Title 1 School. Our teachers and administration are dedicated to providing students with the best education they can receive. We strive to build on the goals and accomplishments from the previous year.
My Project
My AP kids work exceptionally hard in class-whether it's powering through essays or managing a vast array of content. We are determined to do well on the test in May 2017. My APUSH classes meet every other day, and the course is challenging for all students. They are expected to master all American History starting with Columbus discovering the New World up through President Obama's second term in office.
I have seen, firsthand, the accomplishments of students who utilize review books prior to taking the AP exam.
I want to expand that impact by providing each student with their own review book to annotate based on their learning style. The students find the review books to be manageable and are compact in their overview of the time periods. An added bonus is the books prepare students for the US History SAT Subject Test should the students choose to take that as well. Your contribution to my classroom would help my students potentially earning college credit.
