This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
The students in my classroom are typical 21st-century students who gain the most knowledge and understanding from hands-on STEM activities. I want my students to leave knowing more than just spreadsheets, word documents, and clicking a mouse. I want them to be creators and inventors of the future.
We have experimented with Makey Makey, Squishy Circuits, MinecraftEdu, Ev3 Robotics, Ozobots, Scratch, Code, Raspberry Pi, 3Doodlers, MicroBits, Bloxels, and Stop Motion Video Creation.
For many of the students, school is the only place they have access to computers and the Internet and can learn about computer programming.
My Project
My students use smartphones and tablets daily to play games and do various learning activities. I want my students to realize that instead of just playing the games and apps, they need to be inventing new apps for others to use.
Using MIT App Inventor with the requested Amazon Fire tablets, my students will work together to code their own apps.
Their apps will help enhance their learning in our STEM course work and can be shared and used on the Amazon Fire Tablets. Using MIT App Inventor with the Fire Tablets, the students will create interactive science and math projects to share with others. The tablets will help provide a real world component to the Technology side of our STEM classes.
