This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students come from a low income/high-poverty part of the city where they need opportunities to succeed. Four-and five-year-old children need to start their learning journey early.
I teach at a Title I school in Virginia where 100% of our students receive free breakfast and lunch.
Many of them do not have access to educational materials at home.
My students are eager to learn. They also, enjoy math and playing a variety of math activities. They have recently formed a love of board games.
My Project
My students enjoy playing board games. We do have a very limited amount of Peaceable Kingdom board games at our school. We have used them a few times and much to my surprise the students absolutely love them.
Peaceable Kingdom games remove the element of one single winner.
Instead it is a cooperation game in which we all win together or we all lose together. It helps give everyone a equal chance of being successful
We will use the games during math workshop time. The board games will be a great addition to our math activities as well as learning to cooperate and work together to accomplish a task.
By having a collection of games to keep in my room my students would have access to them daily.
