Help me give my students access to high-quality leveled-reading books, on Literacy Footprints Digital Reader, so they can continue to grow (and I can continue to teach)--no matter where their learning is taking place.
My students inspire and surprise me all of the time! I have the privilege of working with small groups of learners who work hard, collaborate, and continue to build their reading stamina and language skills every day. We live in a small mountain community in Northern California. My first through fifth-grade students, many of whom are Dual-language Learners, need additional support with reading, writing, and language development. They thrive in learning environments where they feel safe taking risks; where they perceive reading and writing as positive and attainable; and where they know their voices will be heard and honored by those around them.
My students LOVE feeling successful as readers and writers, and need the tools to continue doing so from home.
My students have loving, supportive families who want them to succeed, so we want to provide them with as many tools as possible to help them do so during distance learning! (We all know that this is a daunting task, for a variety of reasons, and we want to remove as many obstacles as possible!)
My Project
Literacy Footprints Digital Reader Intervention Partner is a fantastic tool for helping students who need extra support in reading and writing to continue growing during distance learning. I can use this as a teaching tool, during live lessons, and students can also use it as an independent learning tool. They have access to many of the same books that they were reading while we were learning from school, so they are familiar with the format of the texts, as well as many of the characters in their fiction series'.
Students can access the site from home, and return to reread the books from our live lessons, as well as watch videos of the lessons if they missed a session or if they'd like to review what we learned--this increases equity and access for all of our students and families.
I also have many of these hardcopy books at school, which we can send home with students so they can have a book in their hands while I am displaying it on the screen--this is very helpful for young readers. Yet, all students will have access to the reading material on the screen, whether they are able to retrieve their books from school or not.
