I have the pleasure to work with an engaged and excited group of students! My students love to work together, collaborate, write, and use our classroom computers and iPads. We love having 1:1 technology in our classroom because we don't have to wait for the technology cart to be available.
Our problem is that we don't have enough charging carts to hold and charge the iPads, Chromebooks, and laptops during the school day.
I teach a very sweet, caring, hardworking, and creative group of 25 third grade students in sunny Los Angeles.
Approximately 32% of the students at our school qualify for free or reduced-price lunch, and everyone receives free breakfast daily. Our school believes in integrating the arts into our academic lessons because we feel this taps into all the students' interests.
My students speak English at school, and many speak Spanish, Tagalog, or another language at home. We are a wonderful mix of cultures, and we support each other as we grow and learn together.
My Project
It has taken over six years to do, but our classroom has enough technology that every student can work online at the same time! During the day we store our laptops, Chromebooks, and iPads in portable charging carts. Unfortunately, these carts just hold six pieces of technology, and we have 25!
I have requested two charging stations for our iPads so we can free up one of the charging carts so it can charge our larger Chromebooks and laptops during the school day.
Having these small, but sturdy charging stations will be a helpful addition to our classroom. We primarily use our classroom technology for LEGO WeDo robotic coding, 3-D printer designs with TinkerCad, practicing our multiplication and division facts with our subscription to Reflex Math, reading articles on NewsELA, writing essays, and creating original PowerPoints about penguins and poetry.
I have also requested some microphone adapters so we can use our new Boombox for presentations. We love our Boombox, but it is not able to use our extra microphone so we can have two students with microphones at the same time. We need this when our students collaborate on their PowerPoint poem presentations, and share the reciting.
