My Students

My class comes from an area that is very diverse. We are close to downtown and a major hospital practically sits in our parking lot. On one end of the street there are doctors living nearby in the more historic areas and surrounded by medical buildings. But on the other side of the street we have the not-so-historic, run-down side. Our school is a Title I school with 100% of the students receiving free lunch. Forget reduced-price lunch. Here, all kids are guaranteed a warm breakfast and lunch free of charge.

This year our school has the highest number of students enrolled from the Red Cross Homeless Shelter than we've ever seen.

Many other students are bused to us from the Children's Home, for orphans and domestic abuse victims and their children, which is right around the next corner.

Another thing that sets us apart, is that the district HAG program is held at our school. Polar opposites right!?! The HAG program brings an extreme shift to the economic diversity of our students. The two sides couldn't be more father apart than the north and south pole.

Our differences make us stronger!

My Project

During the COVID quarantine, our classroom has gone Digital! My students use their Chromebooks every day to create many projects and complete tasks. With a cost-effective color laser printer, students will have access to a resource that will help improve our school climate and showcase their achievements.

Learners feel a great sense of pride and accomplishment when they see their published works.

They need to have this feeling of satisfaction often while they are learning. It gives them a great sense of ownership and success. A color printer will help motivate my students to reach their highest potentials as it will allow them to see their hard work published in the school. Most of my students don't have access to printers at home so this is a true need for us. This laser printer will help us bring those digital crafts to life with amazing and vivid colors. “I found I could say things with color and shapes that I couldn’t say any other way – things I had no words for.” ~Georgia O’Keeffe

Additionally, the printer will be used to print high-quality instructional and differentiated materials that meet the needs of various learners. Having quality visual resources to support my English Language Learners will aid in their academic success as well.

I also plan to start an afternoon computer club once the COVID-19 quarantine is finally over. I plan to teach students ways to make their classwork better with the use of technology and special programs.

Having the extra ink for our new printer will allow us to print throughout this year and next year along with the afterschool club before we need to worry about any replacement materials.

“Mere color... can speak to the soul in a thousand different ways”. ~Oscar Wilde
