My scholars attend an inner-city school and come from mostly low-socioeconomic homes. Most of them come from single parent homes, and many of them live in poverty. I do not want this to be a mountain in their way. I want them to see learning is a way to open many doors to their future. They come in ready to learn with open minds and eagerness. They are very appreciative and excited when they see themselves excelling in any skill they have been learning. Even the ones who struggle display some sort of success. My scholars know that our environment is for learning, and it okay to make mistakes as long as you understand and become successful from them.
Everyday the world is becoming more "tech" savvy, and I want my scholars to be able to keep up. This is why I'm asking for technology for my classroom. There is an abundance of high-quality educational apps that my scholars can use to supplement learning. In addition to educational apps, there are also many games that have educational value that may be played on tablets.
Using a variety of apps, you can use tablets to quiz students (such as multiple-choice quizzes) and receive instant results.
Tablets also make it easy to watch videos that are relevant to what students are learning in the classroom. I can also use tablets as a classroom management tool, such as offering game time as a reward. Tablets can also give me the ability to adapt materials to meet students IEP needs (such as visual and audio features).
I think that tablets are an effective means to engage students and make lessons more interactive.
