Help me give my students explanations in their own language. This year, I have as many as 5 different languages (including Persian, Arabic, and Swahili) in a single math class.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
My high school is the district site for "newcomers" - students who are new to the United States. These students come from a variety of countries (and continents!) and usually have very limited English skills. My school supports them in learning English, but expects them to learn math in the regular education environment where the primary language of instruction is English.
Currently, I use an app on my phone to communicate directions to my students who don't speak English or Spanish.
The Pocketalk Plus will give my students more freedom to communicate in English.
Nearly all students from low‑income households
Data about students' economic need comes from the National Center for Education Statistics, via our partners at MDR Education. Learn more
