Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I work in a low income Turnaround school in New Jersey. My students are sweet, young eager learners that just need a little extra support. They are in a self contained classroom that vary from different needs mostly dealing with Autism. My students deal with a lot of sensory issues and learn more with hands on activities. My students look for support for their sensory inputs, with low materials it is hard to meet all of their needs. and It is harder to get them engaged within their learning. My students get free breakfast and lunch through out the day and are sent home with snack bags for the weekends. My students do not have many resources outside of school, and neither do their parents to understand many of their child's needs.
My Project
My students have many sensory needs, by having the flexible seating areas for them will help them tremendously. my students also need a safe environment by having the containers with lids will keep my students safe in not grabbing certain material that are not being used that may be placed in their mouths or lost for when needed. My students are still young and are learning the routine and steps on being in a classroom, with their disabilities it helps with materials being secured for them to know what is available at the center moment. Also, by allowing them to have the chance to sit on a rug or a bean bag instead of always on a floor or chair gives them the comfort and helps with their sensory needs.
