My Project

Imagine walking into a classroom on the very first day of school, feeling a mix of nerves and excitement. Now, imagine walking in and immediately feeling a sense of calm and belonging because everything you might need is right there. That's the vision for "Welcome Wagon: Social and Emotional Support for Day One."

My new project is all about ensuring that every student who walks into my classroom in September feels genuinely welcome, safe, and ready to learn from the moment they arrive.

The first day sets the tone for the entire year, and I want to eliminate any initial anxieties or barriers to learning.

Through this project, I aim to provide essential items that might otherwise cause stress or distraction for students. This includes:

Snacks: A quick bite can calm jitters and fuel brains, especially if a student missed breakfast or needs a pick-up later in the day.

Tissues: Small but mighty, tissues offer comfort for sniffles, tears, or just a messy moment.

Pens and Notebooks: Having basic supplies readily available means no one starts the day feeling unprepared or embarrassed.

Fidget Toys: For some students, a discreet fidget toy can be an invaluable tool for self-regulation, helping them focus and manage anxiety in a new environment.

By proactively addressing these simple, yet crucial, needs, I can create a classroom where students feel seen, cared for, and secure. This isn't just about providing supplies; it's about building a foundation of social and emotional well-being that allows every student to thrive from day one.
