My students need various sensory items to help calm themselves during times of stress or anxiety. We need light filters, hearing protectors, stress balls, fidget balls, and a sand timer. Students who learn to be mindful of their own emotions are more successful in school and in their daily lives.
My class includes an amazing group of inquisitive, caring, and very active kiddos! They enjoy working together and exploring the world around them. They also love having the freedom to move around our room to find a comfortable spot that best meets their physical and emotional needs.
My kids have a wide range of academic abilities and come from diverse economic and cultural backgrounds but they share the common bonds of friendship, teamwork, and a love of learning.
Each day brings new educational opportunities, adventures, and even some challenges but they always strive to do their personal best. I truly have the most amazing students!
My Project
My goal is to create a calm and relaxing classroom environment where students can come to school and feel safe and secure. More and more students are coming into class with anxiety or stress about things that are happening in their lives. It is hard to focus on schoolwork when their minds are racing and they are thinking about other things.
By providing the various sensory tools, I plan to create a "zen zone" where students can go when they feel stressed or overwhelmed and they will be able to calm themselves and learn to be mindful of their emotions.
The sand and bubble timers will allow the students to set an amount of time to remove themselves from the classroom activity to quiet their minds and relax. While in the zen zone, they will be able to utilize the stress balls, the stretch bands, fidget tools, and the noise reducing earmuffs to relieve their anxiety so they will be able to rejoin our class activities and refocus on their studies. A healthy mind and body are essential for students to be able to learn, grow, and reach their fullest potential in school and in life.
