Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Can you imagine being stuck in the past forever? That's what life will be like for my students if they don't learn how to use technology! Computers are taking over the world, in order to survive we need to lean to use them. I want my students to survive now and in the future.

Unfortunately due to time, limited space, lack of working computers and budget cuts our students have very limited time to spend in the computer lab learning basic skills on how to use technology.

My students are English learners who come from low income families who are not able to provide computers or Internet access at home. Our school is a Title 1 school and all students receive free lunch. We are located in a high violence area that has hardly any community centers where kids and parents can access free technology.

My Project

Having working computers in class will give them access to using and practicing how to work a computer more often. I will be able to use the main laptop to connect to our document reader and show realist pictures to match new vocabulary for my English learners. It will be a great help to be able to watch and follow step by step how to create science projects. I will be able to download theme related documentaries and show the entire class, this will be make our units more exciting and realistic. Our notebooks will be used to do research and type reports that relate to our units, such as camouflage. We will be able to play educational games to reinforce learning. Leapsters are great for hearing and learning how to properly pronounce new words. Students will be able to follow along and read stories. With constant use of computers they will be confident and have knowledge when using a computer. I'm hopeful they will share this knowledge at home and bring their families into the 21st century.

Technology now a day is a must in order to be successful and competitive in the working field.

All kids deserve an opportunity to better their life now and in the future. I want to help prepare them for a better successful future. We might just spark something inside one of our students and create the Steve Jobs of their generation.
