Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
I am going to use the baskets to organize counting collections, the paper and borders to showcase student thinking, choral counts, and to display student directed anchor charts. The cushioned seats will allow for flexible seating choices. I have a variety of math manipulatives, and the additional items requested like the ten frames and magnetic base ten blocks will allow for more students to use materials of their choosing. Additionally, the games and dominoes will provide fun ways to develop important structuring concepts without the use of standard worksheets.
As an elementary mathematics teacher, I am envisioning a "math lab" that is highly organized and creates equal opportunities for all students to access the tasks presented and solve problems in ways, and with tools, that make sense to them.
The materials I am requesting will help create a classroom that encourages children to choose and use materials to support their mathematical journey.
I want to create a space where mathematical thinking is active, productive, celebrated, and shared with all students. I want to create a classroom that will encourage math-esteem to grow within my students, and where parents and families feel welcome to learn about ways to get involved with their students mathematical journey, seeing themselves as partner-educators.
