This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Our school is in the heart of Brooklyn, NY. It is a brand new school with a load of potential. The school includes students from pre-k to kindergarten, and it is a melting pot of children from all around the world. Our school is in a high poverty area, and about ninety-five percent of the students in the school receive free lunch. There are fifteen, energetic, three and four-year-old children in my class but there are not a lot of funds to enrich these students' education because of the budget cuts. Although our families give us support, they can't always help out financially.

My Project

The furniture I am requesting for my PreK class will add a pretend grocery store to our Dramatic Play center. Dramatic play provides an opportunity for young kids to learn through play. It is a place that promotes high-level thinking, problem solving, turn taking, and is rich place for teaching vocabulary.

When kids play in a pretend grocery store, they can learn about people, jobs, and places in their community.

They can also learn about literacy and math concepts in a developmentally appropriate way. We will also be able to use the furniture to set up other themes in Dramatic play. For example we can turn it into a doctors office or a ticket counter at a train station. The options are endless.
