My Students

This year my district has set up a virtual academy for students and families who want to stay in virtual learning, and I am teaching 5th grade virtually again! I loved it last year and my students really thrived, despite the challenges we faced. I teach at a low-income urban school district and most of my students are performing below grade level.

My students are doing very well with virtual learning, they're trying very hard to learn to navigate the digital world!

They love being competitive at the end of each lesson - they're also great at utilizing teamwork and positive talk when participating in class!

Regardless of the challenges, my class is full of smiles and laughs! Now we just need some supplies to keep them having fun while they learn!

My Project

Having a stocked and accessible classroom library is very important to me! Since I am teaching virtually, it has been even harder to make my books available to my students. I have many books that inspire students, but previously, I would have a bookshelf next to my desk and it was difficult for students to access. Using these floating shelves, I can display targeted books behind me as I teach. This allows students to see the books I have available and can also be used as a way to start meaningful conversations.

Many of the titles and covers of the books I have gotten for growth mindset and social justice can be empowering just by seeing them in the background as I am teaching every day!

Help my students have a voice when it comes to read-alouds, as well as a voice when we read books that empower, inspire, and grow their positive mindset.
