This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Our school mission statement is students are the heart of our school and we strive to help them reach their full potential academically, socially, and emotionally. This could not be more true in my classroom of 27 kindergarteners who come from a variety of backgrounds. Covid-19 has made many students lack the ability to problem solve or work together. This is a skill we work on in kindergarten but it is more important than ever to ensure these students have the necessary skills work as part of a classroom community.

In our class, we are a community of caring friends and determined learners.

We work together to help process and understand the big emotions these little kindergarteners feel. We understand that if we can constructively process our emotions, nothing can get in the way of our learning. These kids are determined to do their best and learn despite any challenges they are facing outside of the classroom.

My Project

In my classroom, my goal is to make kindergarteners well rounded socially, emotionally and academically. All students begin school with a variety of skills and abilities in each of these areas. It can be challenging to bridge the gap. To accomplish this, you need access to many resources. Students will use many of these items in a small group setting. They will work together academically, learn how to problem solve and process emotions when problems occur between their peers.

Each of these resources has been carefully chosen to help all students be successful in the classroom, at home, and as a member of the school community.

The phonemic awareness puzzles (RF.K.2a), rhyming sorting (RF.K.2a), scissors, magnetic boards (RF.K.3), fine motor activities (RF.K.3, W.K.1) and math games (K.CC.1, K.MDA.2) will all contribute to the students success in academics, as well as social development. The magnetic tiles (SS.K.1 and all SEL competencies), block builders (SS.K.1 and all SEL competencies), and Fill My Bucket book (all SEL competencies) with help students socially and emotionally. My students are showing growth in many of these areas but would become outstanding students with these extra resources.
