Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

I would like to order Scholastic Math magazine for my 7th and 8th grade students. I feel that they would greatly benefit from using this magazine because the articles are directed toward topics that interest them while at the same time have a math based activity for each article. By using this magazine, I could stimulate an interest in Math which they sorely need. I teach in a 7th Grade classroom and I also teach 8th Grade Algebra. Some of my students are physically handicapped, some are bilingual, and many have difficulties understanding a reading based Math text. I use one of the best math series but the reading component has my students struggling. They find Math tedious at best. With the present focus on test achievement, I need to present mathematics and algebra on an interest level that maximizes involvement and understanding. I would like them to see the joy of mathematics. I would like them to feel success in "doing math." They have a more difficult life than many others. I want to do whatever I can to see them succeed.
