Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

At the start of the school year, my students and I began reading the novel "Holes" by Louis Sachar. My students were IMMEDIATELY captivated by the world of Camp Green and the drama that ensues Stanley Yelnats III. As we continued reading I told my students that they created a movie, when we finished the book, we would watch it and compare the book to the movie. My students were immediately excited and determined to finish the novel!

Help me bring Camp Green Lake to life!

Using the items in this project I would like to bring the world that Louis Sachar created to life. For example, one of the items that the students are really excited about is the orange t-shirts to match the orange jumpsuits that the campers wear in the story. They would each get a set of permanent markers to draw any icons and pictures that represent the movie, and we would wear them when we watch the movie! The students would also receive their very own canteen to fill with water to complete the look and match with the characters in the movie!

The students are also really excited about the plastic shovel spoons for snacks and the science activity we would do in class. And to celebrate and enjoy the movie we would like to enjoy some of Sam's "Funyon" onions, some of Katherine Barlow's "spiced" peach rings, and some "poisonous" sour gummy snakes! To end the day the students will create a biography of a character and receive Kissin' Kate Barlow's treasure! The students have really enjoyed the novel and are really excite to finish it and watch the movie. They have learned so much and have even seen themselves in the characters. Please help me bring this wonderful world to life!
